MAKE A DIFFERENCE: A LESSON FROM A
STARFISH
A wise man was taking a sunrise walk
along the beach. He came upon a young man who was picking up starfish from the
sand and tossing them gently back into the ocean. “What are you doing?”
The wise man asked.
“The sun is coming up and the tide is
going out. If I don’t throw them back, they will die,” was the young man’s
reply.
To that the wise man replied, “But
there are miles and miles of beach and millions of starfish. “You cannot
possibly make a difference.”
The young man bent down, picked up
another starfish, and threw it lovingly back beyond the breaking waters. “I
made a difference for that one,” he replied.
